Villa Gesell is known to be a little less chic than its neighbor Pinamar. The resort is crowded in summer by families and groups of young people on vacation, and is far from being the quietest place on the coast. Its layout is very similar to Pinamar, with a few paved main streets and the rest of the streets made up of dirt roads lined with vacation homes and their gardens. Pinar del Norte Park, to the north of the city, is the place where the pioneer Don Carlos Gesell built the first house in the area for his family in 1931 and which now houses the municipal museum.
