Mar Chiquita, 35 km north of Mar del Plata is, as its name suggests, quite small. Its oldest construction, a building called El Refugio from 1930, now houses the tourist office. The coastal town offers the visitor not only its beautiful beach and bathing facilities, but also the pretty Laguna de Mar Chiquita, where fresh water from the streams of the Pampa mixes with sea water from the Atlantic, forming a brackish water reserve with a biosphere that is unique in Argentina.
