Until the early 1990 s, the town of Bykhaw was known for its important military base, but its history began well before the Soviet period. A former fortress town, the ruins of a former castle and a beautiful Baroque synagogue dating from the beginning of the th century are visiting Bykhaw. The construction of the castle began in 1590 under Jan Chodkevič, head of the army of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and ended in 1630 under Lev Sapega. This European-style architectural ensemble deserves to be visited during a stay in the Mogilev region.
