PLACE DE L'INDEPENDANCE (ПЛОЩАДЬ ПЛОЩАДЬ)

With an area of 7 hectares, this pleasant pedestrian area is the largest square in Minsk. There is the main building of the State University, the town hall, the government house (1930-1933) (Дом Правительства), where Parliament and the Council of Ministers sit. Front, the oldest monument dedicated to Lenin (1933). At No. 10 is the Central station building (1953), at No. 21 is the Department Stores (1951). In classical style, the two buildings look like sumptuous palaces with columns, marbles and chandeliers.
