MOULAY ISMAÏL MAUSOLEUM
Mausoleum of Moulay Ismaël, part of the former courthouse, where non-Muslims can visit part of the sanctuary
The site of the mausoleum was part of the former courthouse, built in 1700 and restored in 1957, which housed a mosque. Non-Muslims can visit part of the sanctuary. The burial chamber, where the sultan is laid to rest, is decorated with four clocks offered by Louis XIV to Moulay Ismaïl to make up for his refusal to grant him one of his daughters. This monument conveys an impression of serenity, in keeping with the image of Meknes.
