Lokaro Bay is a wild and beautiful place. Some people think of Brittany, others of Ireland! The excursion to this bay is superb. You cross canals, passing several lagoons where specific vegetation grows. In the background, the Pic Saint-Louis massif makes a beautiful backdrop (superb for the return trip, at sunset). A good introduction to the flora and fauna of the Canal des Pangalanes. We reach the village of Evatraha, home to around 1,500 souls. No less than 3 churches (Protestant, Catholic, Adventist) watch over their spirits! The circular walk from here to Lokaro Bay takes between 3 and 5 hours. You then reach three small coves, where you can take a swim (in winter, the water is not so warm; and the third cove is said to contain sea urchins). The walk, delightfully pastoral (nepenthe or "carnivorous plants" on the way), continues to a formidable vantage point overlooking Evatraha's surroundings, the two lagoons and the sea; this picturesque little village is nestled among coconut palms, in a grandiose setting. Magnificent photos guaranteed in fine weather. We then descend to this small village, which, during a brief visit, will suddenly come to life. Don't make thoughtless donations to the children (sweets or pens or coins): if you want to do something, ask the doctor (there's a dispensary), etc.
