Remnants of the fort and Tipu Sultan's palace, where 3 gates are still standing, along with parts of the ramparts
Not much remains of Tipu Sultan's fort and palace, the Lal Mahal, which were almost totally destroyed during Tipu Sultan's defeat of the British on May 4, 1799. You can still admire the three gates still standing, including the one in Bangalore, pieces of ramparts here and there and the impressive dungeon of Colonel Bailey. The fortification of Srirangapatna dates back to 1454, when the city was under the sway of the Vijayanagar Empire.
