TABLE OF TRAJAN
On the Serbian side, the Tabula Trajana bears a Latin inscription dedicated to the emperor Trajan who had a road carved in the rock for his Roman legions to pass. This plaque was specially carved on a rock face, overlooking the Iron Gates. The road having been swallowed up by the dam, it is today preserved with other vestiges of the same period (Roman road and remains of the bridge on the Danube) in the national park.
On the Romanian side, a large portrait of Decimal (the chief of the Dacians), also carved in the rock, answers it.
