Swimming pools are rare in Kathmandu, even in the charming hotels in the center. For an aquatic break on a sunny day, the best plan is to go to the luxury Shangri-La hotel, which boasts a delightful swimming pool nestled in a large garden. Like a traditional Newar pond, the pool is bordered by a low brick wall and bronze fountains gently glide over it. The setting is green, calm and relaxing. Pool bar prices are understandably high.
