KANAHA POND BIRD SANCTUARY

Nestled in Kahului Bay, this nature reserve is home to rare Hawaiian birds. The endemic and endangered Hawaiian coot is found here. Binoculars are recommended. Among the 86 birds that have been identified, most are migratory birds that stop over in Hawaii to rest. Note that part of the park closes between April and the end of August because this is the nesting period of the birds, which need their peace and quiet.
