Located at the junction of Highways 500 and 510, this small town has a regional airport. It serves as a distribution center for the Labrador coastal region and as the regional headquarters for government offices. Built on a sandy plateau in 1941, the town was created with a specific purpose in mind: to serve as an airport for transatlantic supplies during the Second World War. In more recent times, it has been used as a low-level flight training base, and today it is the home of the largest military air base in northeastern North America, Canadian Forces Base Goose Bay.
