After 374 km from Fort Saint John, through boreal forests and increasingly mountainous landscapes, we arrive at Fort Nelson. The Muska, Prophet and Sikanni Chief rivers converge here to form the Liard River. The Fort Nelson Historical Museum traces the ambitious construction of the Alaska Highway, a huge project for its time. Still further north, and before entering the Yukon, we gain more altitude to the Summit Pass (1,295 m), after having crossed the Stone Mountain Provincial Park, known for the Summit Lake (140 km west of Fort Nelson). The road continues through Muncho Lake Provincial Park.
