San Angelo grew from its agricultural activity, which is still very much alive today. The city has remained the first wool market in Texas. Located in the middle of the state, it can be a stopover, just to cut the road in half between east and west, but otherwise there is not much to do there. San Angelo is best known for its 1860s U.S. Army post and the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark. You can walk along the Concho River Walk, which is a long green corridor with walking trails, gardens and surrounding parks. Some historic buildings.
