FORT WORTH STOCKYARDS NATIONAL HISTORIC DISTRICT
Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District is a historic district dedicated entirely to cowboy culture.
When you say cowboy town, you mean cattle town. Every morning at 11:30 a.m. and every afternoon at 4:00 p.m., the famous longhorn cows parade through Fort Worth on their way to the market where they will be sold. The best vantage point is at the city's impressive stockyards at the intersection of East Exchange Avenue and North Main Street in the northern part of town. This is definitely a local attraction not to be missed, and a good time to get your camera out. There are also many country music concerts in the area, which is a popular attraction for locals.
In this historic district entirely dedicated to the cowboy culture, you can head for the Stockyards Museum housed in the Livestock Exchange building, the old cattle market dating from 1902. Don't miss the Stockyards Championship Rodeo which is held every Friday and Saturday at 8pm in the Cowtown Coliseum. A few steps away, the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame celebrates the heroes of the rodeo. The tour will continue through the many attractions, stores, saloons and restaurants dedicated entirely to the culture of the cowboy, or vaquero. If you have the opportunity, head to the Stockyard Championship Rodeo for a truly unforgettable experience in the heart of Texas culture and cowboy country. These rodeos take place every Friday and Saturday.
