Ellen's Restaurant

Ellen's Restaurant brunch is an institution in the neighborhood. Although the café serves a lunch and dinner menu that is well worth mentioning, it is really for breakfast that we take the time to stop by this downtown address. We'll try the shrimp served on the grits: it's a cornmeal that looks a lot like polenta, made by grinding corn seeds via a stone grinder. It is an emblematic dish of the southern United States. The portions are very (too?) generous but it is good.
