USS LEXINGTON
Museum in Corpus Christi with an aircraft carrier and airplane carcasses recovered from the bottom of the water.
This is the must-see museum in Corpus Christi, provided you're not a primary anti-US Army. And again, it's so impressive that it's worth it. It looks a bit like an open-air American base. The centerpiece is the USS Lexington, an aircraft carrier that entered service in 1943 and was retired in 1991, celebrating its 80th birthday in 2023. Its first sorties were during World War II. It has served more missions than any other ship of its kind in the U.S. Navy. For a few extra dollars, visitors can take the controls of an aircraft in the well-designed full-scale simulator. The museum is divided into six distinct sections, each of which provides some explanation of how an aircraft carrier works. You have, for example, a 3D projection theater, with a session every hour, immersing you in three-story screens and stunning sound quality. It has a capacity of just under 200 people. You can also see the carcasses of airplanes recovered from the bottom of the water, brought to the surface and then rehabilitated. They testify to a painful past, where the slightest mistake in piloting could be very serious. You can take guided or self-guided tours, using a very practical and easy to download mobile application. Available in English or Spanish. This facility is a real treat for airplane or aviation enthusiasts!
