WOODEN BOAT FESTIVAL

Organized by the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum, this festival brings together, on the banks of the Tchefuncte River, many wooden boats from all over the Gulf Coast region. Some owners even allow visitors to come aboard to see these gems up close. The program also includes music, a children's village and a variety of activities, including the Quick 'N' Dirty Boat Building Contest, in which participants have 14 hours to build their boat and then float it a distance of 91.4 meters.
