PIROGUES POG-LAMBARENE

Boat and ferry

The Jeanne-Thérèse, Saint-Raphaël and Ibekelia pirogues - long, covered but uncomfortable boats with powerful engines - all make the Port-Gentil - Lambaréné trip in an average of 5 to 6 hours. They are picked up at the old port of Port-Gentil. If you have a fixed travel date, it's wise to buy your ticket at least 48 hours in advance. Bring plenty of fresh water and a snack to satisfy a small hunger. All along the way, you'll enjoy superb, lush landscapes.

NGV

Boat and ferry

Two boats, the Dolphin and the Maria Galanta, operate between Port-Gentil and Libreville several times a week. Timetables depend on the tides. With the Dolphin, the crossing takes around 3 hours 45 minutes, while with the Maria Galanta it's just 2 hours 45 minutes. However, double the price! You'll need to arrive early to check in your luggage. Drinks and sandwiches are sold on board. Beware of seasickness, as the boat sails against the current towards Port-Gentil, making for a rough ride. The return to Libreville is more peaceful.
