The village of Mikongo is located on the "economic" road, 43 km from Lopé. One kilometre before the village, a track entrance on the right leads to the Mikongo camp. The Mikongo Vision ecotourist association offers a number of hiking trails, varying in length, level of difficulty and landscape: summits with forest views, primary forest with monkeys and elephants, forest with marantaceae and gorillas, riverbanks, small enclosed savannahs, more open trails and picathartes for birdwatchers. Hikers also have the opportunity to bathe in a natural river pool near the camp 5 minutes away. All hikes are accompanied by one or two guides depending on group size. Hikers should be in good physical condition. They should wear dark clothing (khaki, green, brown) and avoid white. They should also bring long trousers, long-sleeved shirts or T-shirts, good walking shoes, a cap or hat, insect repellent, binoculars, sun cream, and a raincoat like a poncho. Valid for all walks in the forest: do not wear perfume. For safety reasons, the walks are not accessible to children under 15 years old. It is compulsory for visitors to have taken out medical assistance and evacuation insurance.
