Machala, nicknamed the banana capital of the world, is Ecuador's fourth most important city in economic terms, and second only to Guayaquil as a seaport. On the shores of the Pacific Ocean, it enjoys a rainy tropical climate, with an altitude of 6 meters above sea level and an average temperature of 22°C. Machala is a productive agricultural, industrial and commercial city, home to major cultural, financial, administrative and commercial institutions. It exports bananas worldwide from the port of Puerto Bolívar. The city also imports vehicles, wood, agricultural products and paper, among other things. Machala boasts several parks and plazas, including the Centennial Park, Buenos Aires Park, Plazoleta Bolívar Madero Vargas and Juan Montalvo Park. You can also visit the Museo Arqueológico y Paleontológico de la Casa de la Cultura, considered to be one of the city's most comprehensive museums for its relics of pre-Columbian history.
