CATEDRAL METROPOLITANA DE GUAYAQUIL

The cathedral is more beautiful from the outside than the inside. Neo-Gothic in style, it provides a nice backdrop for photos of the Seminario Park where the Iguanas frolic and the statue of Simón Bolívar, El Libertador. The apse of the cathedral borders the swimming pool of the Gran Hotel so that the stained glass windows overlook the bathers. This cathedral was built under the orders of Francisco Xavier de Garaicoa, the first bishop of Guayaquil who later became Archbishop of Quito.
