CENTRO DE ARTE CONTEMPORÁNEO DE QUITO

The Centre for Contemporary Art (CAC) is located in the former military hospital in the emblematic San Juan district, in the heart of the city. The construction of this impressive architectural work began in 1900 and was completed in 1929 as a hospital dedicated to the fight against tuberculosis. Today, the building has been renovated to house a large-scale cultural and artistic centre. Under the threat of the opening of a 5-star hotel in place of this museum, the city finally postponed this project and converted this cultural center into a real museum dedicated to contemporary art. The CAC is a cultural space with a rich and intense program that includes exhibitions and parallel activities, workshops and educational activities, as well as artistic and cultural events. All information about the activities of the contemporary art centre is updated weekly on the website and social networks. The exhibitions of the CAC are mostly temporary and range from the exhibition of works by Ecuadorian artists for the decoration of luxury hotels to international meetings between artists passionate about the same theme, always with the intention of promoting and developing contemporary art in the heart of the city.
