A very special and unique place in Hedmann! Don't let yourself be influenced by its name, it's not just a place where you can take a cup of tea or chocolate. The place is open to the public only 2 hours a day and rather to an educational objective. Of course you can enjoy tea and cocoa (100% natural), but it is also a gallery of art, crafts, a place of sale of organic products and medicinal plants and especially, a magnificent project for a better future. The archaeologist David Sedat, an expert from the Maya civilization, noted striking similarities between the problems of today's Hedmann and the end of the Maya kingdom: uncontrolled population growth, deforestation and mountain erosion, loss of agricultural land, scarce water and nutritional deficiencies. Then was the initiative "Botanique Botanique Botanique 2012" initiative. This experiment was established on 20 hectares of sloping agricultural land with erosion (and with a view of the Mayan ruins). Using simple techniques of soil conservation (not to burn land, preserve native species of plants, make micro-terraces), as well as through the planting of various types of fruit trees, medicinal trees and biofuels producers, the hills are now covered by a new lush forest with useful species and abundant fauna, contrasting with corn and frijoles monocultures. It is a privately funded, self-funded project, and now autonomous: the family company has developed and markets a range of natural products and cultivated sustainably, including nono (Morinda citrifolia) whose fruit is known for these many virtues.
