Built in 1693 at the request of the nuns, this symbol of Antigua features a bell tower and clock.
This beautiful yellow arch is the symbol of Antigua. It was built in 1693 at the request of the nuns of the Convento de Santa Catalina Mártir, founded in 1613. Since they felt cramped and were not allowed to go out into the street, they asked the authorities to build this enclosed corridor so that they could join the property opposite - and thus gain space - without being seen. The bell tower and French clock were added when the town was rebuilt after the 1773 earthquake.

photo incontournable
Bon vous ne serez pas tout seul cet endroit, nombre de touriste feront la célèbre photo avec le volcan en arrière plan, c'est l'une des vue les plus connues d'Antigua. C'est le chemin de la Merced et un excellent point de repère de la ville, que de monde ici, ça grouille!

This arch built between two rows of houses on both sides of a large busy street of this beautiful city is elegant and very decorative with its YELLOW color. The photo with the volcano is perfect.

Situé sur la 5a Av. Norte, l'ARCO SANTA CATALINA est un monument incontournable d'Antigua. Si on l'a regarde depuis le Sud on voit "La Merced" au fond et depuis le Nord on voit le Volcan.
