Located some 30km from Ban Lung, Lomphat is the former provincial capital, abandoned since the 1980s. It's now a large, sleepy village on the banks of the Srépok River. The road to Lomphat isn't too bad, and is lined with light forest all the way. Lomphat is a must for intrepid bikers wishing to reach Mondolkiri via the forest. They will cross the Srépok by pirogue just outside the town, after asking for directions at the market. Some 30km from Lomphat, via a new track, lies the large Kirimongkot volcanic lake, little visited because it is so isolated.
