A speakeasy only wins its title if you can sneak through its hidden entrance into an innocent looking shop. In the case of the Menaka Lounge, Siem Reap's only speakeasy bar, the door is hidden in the Menaka Café, and there is a second secret door in the adjacent alleyway. The living room welcomes you into its Chesterfield sofas, a chandelier diffuses a subdued light and the walls are decorated with paintings of stars from the golden era of Khmer rock, echoing the music of the 1960s in this chic and groovy establishment. Among the 16 iconic homemade cocktails, favourites include Samboh Sneah and the classic Double Rye Old Fashioned, all designed and manufactured by leading American mixologists. Infusions are made with fresh local products, including Kampot pepper, chili, basil and jackfruit. High-end alcohols such as Japanese and Scottish whiskies are also available. Happy hour every night from 6pm to 8pm allows you to buy two cocktails and get one for free. This address is a good alternative to the very noisy Pub Street.
