MONUMENTAL STATUES
Monumental statues of Dâmbâng Krâgnoung at the southeast exit and Preah Noreaye with eight arms at the northwest exit.
The exits from Battambang (RN 5) are marked by two traffic circles, on which two large, easily identifiable statues have been erected (in the late 1990s). At the south-east exit (towards Phnom Penh) is a representation of Dâmbâng Krâgnoung, the legendary hero who is said to have founded the town of Battambang on the spot where he lost his baton (bat dambang means "lost baton"). At the north-west exit (towards Sisophon) stands the statue of an eight-armed figure known to the Khmers as Preah Noreaye.
