This yellow building, emblematic of the city, was built by the French, who began work in 1935 on the site of a vast swamp. It was completed 22 months later and inaugurated by King Sisowath Monivong in September 1937. A fine example of the Art Deco style, it comprises a large central dome 26 metres high and 50 metres in diameter, and four wings oriented at 90 degrees to each other. Vents allow hot air to escape through the dome. Rehabilitated in 2011, it now houses some 3,100 shops.

Grand marché moderne et propre, style Arts Déco de couleur jaune, en forme de X avec un grand dôme au centre, il offre un peu de fraîcheur au milieu de la chaleur de la ville. Sur le côté Ouest, le marché d'alimentation avec des stands où l'on peut déguster poisson et fruits de mer frais et délicieux.

A Phnom Penh vous trouverez pas mal de marché. Le marché central est de loin le plus touristique pour moi Mais parfait pour acheter des souvenirs. Y aller vers 9h quand les touristes ne sont pas encore là. Sinon n'hésitez pas à faire aussi des marchés locaux Ca vos le détour aussi.
