WAT LANGKA
The original pagoda near the Independence Monument was a meeting place for Khmer and Sri Lankan monks.
Next to the Independence Monument, this is one of the five original pagodas built at the time of Wat Phnom in the 15th century. At the time, it was a meeting place for Khmer and Sri Lankan monks. It was completely destroyed by the Khmer Rouge during the civil war, but was the first pagoda to be rebuilt after their fall. Its history is not reflected in its walls: the pagoda has a resolutely modern appearance, and is impeccably clean. Worth a visit for its historical interest rather than its architecture.
