Bandon-by-the-Sea is one of the most charming coastal villages in Oregon. Located at the mouth of the Shell River, Bandon is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. The temperate climate hosts a multitude of artists and trendy boutiques. Established in 1853, Bandon was destroyed twice by fire. The first, in 1914, ravaged the sea front. The second, in 1936, burned 16 of the 500 buildings in the city, killing 13 people in the passage. Each time, the village is rebuilt. The waterfront is now known as the Old Town and as a tourist and artistic place. Sea bask regularly in the waters of the small harbour. This is the home of many artists and artisans. The area also includes charming cafés, bookshops and candy shops. Fishing on the Shell River is also an intense activity. The Shell River lighthouse is one of the most painted and photographed in Oregon. Bandon's beaches are the most famous on the west coast of the United States.
