The Bavarian village of Leavenworth stretches to the heart of Washington State at the foot of the mountains of the Cascade chain. The village contrasts with its typically European aspect. It is animated throughout the year by its festivals, shops, living theaters, restaurants and cultural events. Millions of visitors come there every year. For the little history, the village of Leavenworth began its germanization in the early 1960 s, with the aim of reviving its economy while its wood industry and the fréquentation of its line of railway decaying. The idea came to two merchants from the city of return from a visit to the village of Solvang, a true piece of Denmark in the heart of California, north of Los Angeles. The decision was thus taken by the village to change its identity. We must admit that it is successful. The Bavarian spirit predominates in Leavenworth where beer festivals follow the demonstrations. Houses, shops, restaurants and bistros show this culture with flowery balconies, folklore and a good child atmosphere. It is a great place to practice many activities over the seasons. In winter, Leavenworth offers two ski areas of almost 50 km from its own mechanical lift station, located just a few blocks from the main street of the village. All snow sports are then practiced there. In summer, activities are concentrated around the river Wenatchee with water sports, including rafting. Hiking or mountain biking allows you to enjoy the surrounding wilderness and panoramic views.
