This is where Robert Bruce stabbed Red Comyn, his rival for the Crown, who had betrayed him to the British. An excommunication ensued. Bruce's perseverance and ingenuity are illustrated by two legends. The first one tells that when he fled, he would have ridden his horse upside down to make his pursuers believe he was going in the opposite direction. The other tells that, demoralized, he once hid in a cave. There he noticed a spider that had to weave its web seven times to weave it perfectly.
