CHILLINGHAM CASTLE

The first to occupy the castle were monks in the 1246 th century but the Grey family settled in and still possesses it. In 1298, King Edouard I made a stop here when he went to Scotland to fight the independence of William Wallace. Today we visit the magnificent richly furnished rooms and the torture room. The place is considered one of the most haunted in the country. It is further from the coast than its neighbours but has beautiful wooded areas.
