ARCHANGEL MICHAEL'S MONASTERY

Founded in the 13th century by Sviatoslav, the monastery was destroyed by Batu during the Tatar invasion of Kiev's Russia. Reconstruction began in 1530 under Basil III. The main building of the monastery is the Church of the Archangel St. Michael, built in 1792-1806 in the Russian classical style, but the most beautiful is the Church of St. John (1670). The complex, which has been considerably restored, is well worth a visit.
