TOLGA CONVENT

The Monastery of the Presentation of the Virgin is one of the oldest in the region. It was founded at the beginning of the 14th century around an icon representing the Blessed Virgin and Child Jesus. In the 17th century, the monastery underwent an important economic and cultural development in Yaroslavl and was equipped with a large library, a religious school, an orphanage and a seminary before being badly damaged during the time of unrest. The restoration of the monastery only began under perestroika and the place became a convent of nuns in 1988.
