SHOWA DAIBUTSU BUDDHA
Seiryu-ji temple is home to Japan's largest bronze seated Buddha, erected in 1984. Over 21 metres high, the Showa Daibutsu dominates a peaceful forest-fringed clearing. The entire site, recently founded in 1982, offers a moment of calm and contemplation, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. There's also a five-storey cypress pagoda, the tallest in Tohoku, a main hall containing Buddhist treasures and a hall dedicated to the monk Kūkai. It's also possible to sample shōjin-ryōri vegetarian cuisine here, by reservation.
