MAISON ISHIGURO-KE
Residence / Private mansion

Built in 1935, the former Ishiguro residence blends traditional Japanese architecture with Western influences. Attached to the Ishiguro samurai lineage, it bears witness to the evolution of lifestyles from the Edo period to Shōwa. Still inhabited by the family's descendants, it remains the only samurai residence in Kakunodate open to the public yet still inhabited. Here, you can discover some of the rooms and carefully preserved family heirlooms. A short guided tour is included in the entrance fee.
