Shrine to the Minamoto clan. Initially, Yoshitsune Minamoto fought the Taira alongside his brother Yoritomo. Then jealousy and quarrels separated the two brothers. Yoshitsune asked the Fujiwara for protection in Hiraizumi. The third chief, Fujiwara, resisted Yoritomo, but the fourth chief, Yashuhira, betrayed Yoshitsune. Attacked, Yoshitsune saw no way out and killed his own family, committing suicide for fear of imprisonment. To avenge his brother, Yoritomo killed Yasuhira Fujiwara and razed the town to the ground.
