The original castle was built in 1601 by Masamune. It was located on a site naturally fortified by cliffs. The castle was supposed to defend and repel the attacks of the shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu. Unfortunately, the building no longer exists: only ruins remain. During a visit to the site, you can admire a reconstruction of the sumi-yagura watchtowers. The view over Sendai is splendid. You can also visit the on-site museum.
