Aizu's Sazaedo, built in 1796 on Mount Iimori, is a 16.5-meter-high hexagonal temple, also known as Entsu Sanso-do. Designed by the monk Ikudo of Shosoji temple, it features a unique double-helix ramp that allows visitors to go up and down without ever passing other visitors. An architectural curiosity. Thirty-three statues of Kannon were once installed here, symbolizing a complete pilgrimage. Classified as an important cultural asset in 1995, this rare monument is well worth a visit.
