Tsurugajo Kaikan, located right next to the castle, is a shopping mall where you can enjoy local specialties such as wappa meshi (for groups), katsudon sauce, sobas and Kitakata's famous ramen. On the first floor, a duty-free store sells local products and souvenirs: ready-to-cook ramen, sobas, pickles, sweet treats and handicrafts such as akabeko. You can even paint your own lucky akabeko in 30 minutes and take it home with you. A great stop-off for souvenir shopping.
