This Sado-based shipping company connects the island with the city of Niigata. Departures are from the Sado Kisen Terminal, a 15-minute bus ride from Niigata station. Two options are available: ferry or jetfoil, a hydrofoil powered by Boeing waterjets. Journey times are 2h30 and one hour respectively. Fares depend on the type of boat and seat. The cheapest one-way ticket is the ferry in a second-class cabin (¥2,970). The jetfoil will cost you ¥7060.
