Remains from the Jomon period dating from 2,000 to 9,000 BC have been discovered and are mostly visible at the Minamikayabe Museum. A terracotta hollow statue, Chuku-dogu, dating back about 3,500 years and discovered on the site, is designated as a national treasure.
