This is the heart of Arima's hot springs. At this very spot is a steam engine that regulates and distributes water to the onsen throughout the city. It looks like a pipe straight out of hell and the bowels of the earth. It drains hot water rich in sodium chloride and iron, which turns to rust on contact with the air, but which has historically recognized therapeutic virtues. The smell can be peculiar. The spring is located within the walls of a small sanctuary of the same name.
