SŌRAKUEN
The construction of this garden was completed at the beginning of the 20th century. At that time it was the private garden of the home of Taijiro Kodera, father of the former mayor of Kōbe, Kenkichi Kodera. It became the property of the city of Kōbe and opened to the public in 1941. Today, people stroll by the pond where a waterfall flows, among azaleas in spring or mummi leaves in autumn. This garden exudes Japanese serenity and tradition. The buildings, which stand behind the trees, remind us that the city is never far away.
