The design of the building of this museum was drawn by the famous Japanese architect, Tadao Andō. A permanent exhibition is dedicated to him. The galleries of the place host nearly 8,000 pieces of art, produced by artists originating from the prefecture of Hyōgo or having strong links with it. There is also a space dedicated to the artists Ryōhei Koiso and Heizō Kanayama, two renowned artists of modern Japanese painting.
