These two valleys are easily accessible by train for Kyotoites who come to relax during weekends and vacations. Kurama has both a mountainous site and onsen. As for Kibune, it is more like a group of buildings acting as ryokan, cantilevered above the tumult of the waters of Kibune-gawa river. Both valleys have some nice walks to offer. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to walk up to Kurama-dera temple from the town below, before going down to Kibune to enjoy the coolness. In winter, it is advisable to do the opposite and soak in a hot spring bath at the end of the walk to relax and enjoy a well-deserved peaceful end of the day before returning to your hotel in Kyoto.
