San Xavier del Bac Mission

Established in 1692, this mission is a must see. A jewel of colonial architecture, it is the oldest European structure in Arizona and is widely recognized as the finest example of Spanish architecture in the United States. Its clay construction and its roof supported by successive vaults make it unique in the country. Its interior is filled with paintings, prints and sculptures, and a small museum of the history of the place completes the visit.
