It was the mormons pioneers who christened the Capitol Reef region, the rocky domes that were reminiscent of the shape of the Capitol.

Capitol Reef National Park covers an area of 979 km 2, east of the Dixie National Forest and Grand staircase-Escalante National Monument, and north of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. It was created to preserve the Waterpocket Fold, a gigantic patch of terrain that winds over 160 km from north to south. There are colorful cliffs, massive rocky domes, winding canyons and impressive natural arches, as well as the impetuous streams of La River.

Scenic Drive, located on Hwy 24 in Fruita, where the Ferme built by the Mormons at the beginning of the th century, ends in a large covered canyon and a magnificent landscape.

Guides from Scenic drive as well as Cathedral Valley and Strike valley are available at Visitor Center. Other unpaved roads are accessible to 4 x 4 or high-wheel vehicles. The visitor will find at the reception centre of the maps or guides and will be able to inquire about the conditions of the tracks. It is possible to ride on some tracks. A campsite and two primitive campsites are located in the park. Let us know that the magnificent orchard of Fruita is made available to visitors who can enjoy it.
