On May 28, 1918 the First Republic was born; the Bolsheviks ended it on November 29, 1920, celebrated by the Soviet regime as the day of the rebirth of the Armenian state. Since 1991, May 28, which was demonized by the Soviets, has been considered the founding date of the Republic.
